Spain has implemented various measures to combat tobacco use, aligning with the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.

MONITORING:
- Tobacco use prevalence data among adults and youth is available, sample sizes are representative and recent.
SMOKE-FREE ENVIRONMENTS:
- Comprehensive smoke-free laws exist with no exemptions, covering all public places.
CESSATION PROGRAMMES:
- Spain has a toll-free quit line with cessation support; NRT and services are partially covered by national health insurance.
HEALTH WARNINGS:
- Health warnings cover 65% of the principal display areas on cigarette packages, including graphic and textual warnings.
MASS MEDIA:
- A national anti-tobacco media campaign was conducted (aired on TV/radio) in 2018-2020, with evaluation. However, it was not part of a comprehensive government tobacco control program.
ADVERTISING BANS:
- Direct and indirect tobacco advertising is banned, including TV/radio, print media, and point-of-sale promotions. Reputation protection via sponsorship is also prohibited.
TAXATION:
- High taxes on tobacco products (including both specific and ad valorem components) resulted in cigarette prices comprising 78.24% of retail prices in 2020. Cigarettes became less affordable between 2010 and 2020.
