Pew Research Center Report Summary: Growing Support for U.S.-Cuba Relations

• Key Findings: Public support for re-establishing U.S. diplomatic relations with Cuba and ending the trade embargo against Cuba has increased significantly. Currently, 73% of Americans approve of restoring relations (up 10 points from January 2015), and 72% support ending the embargo (up 6 points). This support is broad-based, spanning partisan groups (with the largest increase among conservative Republicans), demographic segments, and racial/ethnic groups. Additionally, 43% of Americans expect Cuba to become more democratic over the next several years, an increase from 32% in January.
• Methodology: Telephone survey conducted July 14-20, 2015, among 2,002 adults nationwide, using landline and cell phone samples. Weighted to match U.S. population parameters from the 2013 Census Bureau.
