报告摘要
Circular business models present transformative opportunities for industries, driving value through sustainability, resilience, revenue growth, and cost savings. Based on a global survey of 420 executives across 10 manufacturing industries, circularity’s importance grows from ~40% to ~75% today, projecting ~95% adoption in three years.
Three archetypes underpin circular value creation:
- Circular feedstock replaces virgin materials with recycled ones, enhancing GHG emission reductions where effective (e.g., aluminum recycling); challenges include collection and regional regulations.
- Lifespan extension enhances durability via repair/refurbishment, extending product life and offering economic resilience benefits (e.g., machinery and electronics); key is showcasing business cases and partnerships.
- Capacity sharing monetizes usage over ownership (e.g., leasing, pay-per-use) boosting operational resilience and customer reach.
The transition demands enabling strategies: identifying key circular sources, embedding circularity into the business strategy, forming partnerships for control points, and establishing monitoring systems to identify roadblocks. Successful examples include initiatives from Norsk Hydro (using recycled aluminum with carbon credits), Siemens Mobility (refurbished rail equipment), and Trane Technologies (chiller-as-a-service), demonstrating tangible GHG emission reductions and financial returns.
Each archetype offers tailored strategies for maximizing value across GHG emissions, resilience, revenue, and costs. The long-term benefits outweight initial investment hurdles through experience curve effects.
