FSI Year in Review: Core Activities and Highlights 2024

The FSI continued its mission of assisting global financial authorities in strengthening financial systems through policy work, outreach events, capacity development, and special projects. Key focuses in 2024 included policy publications, crisis simulations, and technological advancements like AI regulation.

• Policy Work: Released 14 policy papers on topics such as artificial intelligence, stablecoins, fintech, climate risks, and central bank liquidity, with download increases to 357,000 copies. Publications covered emerging risks, regulatory challenges, and stress testing practices.

• Outreach and Events: Organized 34 events, up from 39 in terms of participation with over 3,700 attendees, including major conferences on bank resolution, AI in finance, and financial inclusion, plus webinars and virtual seminars on suptech and climate disclosures.

• Capacity Development: Launched the 20th-anniversary of FSI Connect, an e-learning platform used by over 300 institutions across 160 jurisdictions. This included new tutorial suites on big techs, climate scenarios, and operational resilience, with over 11,000 user accounts. Online courses reached 538 participants, focusing on banking resolution, fintech, and climate risks.

• Special Projects: Conducted four cross-border crisis simulations to test cooperation frameworks, expanded the Fintech Repository to include all BIS jurisdictions, and supported the UNIDROIT project on bank liquidation frameworks for future consultations.

• Technology and Innovation: Highlighted AI seminars attracting over 700 participants, exploring regulatory applications and operational readiness in central banking. Also, initiatives on financial inclusion and suptech networks enhanced digital banking oversight.

Downloads reached 357,000, publication numbers remained stable at 14, and partnerships with organizations like the FSB and IAIS drove collaborative efforts in climate and fintech training.
