Summary of the SIDS High-Level Technical Meeting on NCDs and Mental Health
Event Overview
The SIDS High-Level Technical Meeting on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and Mental Health was held in Bridgetown, Barbados from 17 to 18 January 2023 at the Hilton Hotel, Needham Point, St. Michael. The event aimed to foster high-level discussions on NCDs and mental health through panel discussions, plenary sessions, and interactive side events. It was a hybrid meeting, allowing both in-person and virtual participation.
Essential Information
Visa and Entry Requirements
- All visitors must have a valid passport and return ticket.
- Most countries do not require a visa, but participants should verify with their local consulate or Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- The Ministry of Health and Wellness Barbados will facilitate a Visa Waiver for participants who require one. Indicate this to the WHO Secretariat along with a copy of your passport bio page.
- All visitors must provide the name and address of their hotel or residence to the Immigration Department.
Arrival and Transportation
- Participants arriving at Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) will be greeted by ushers with SIDS banners and escorted to the shuttle buses arranged by the Ministry of Health.
- Transportation will be available until 1st February 2023. Departures after this date are the responsibility of the participant.
Venue
- The meeting was held at Hilton Hotel, Needham Point, St. Michael, Bridgetown, Barbados.
- Signs will direct participants to the conference room.
Hotel and Accommodation
- PAHO/WHO has secured a block of hotel rooms at the Hilton Barbados Resort with buffet breakfast included.
- Internet access is provided, and the hotel will give instructions on how to access it.
- Self-paying participants are included in the block and must indicate this at check-in to receive the agreed rate.
- Limited walk-in showers are available for those with disabilities; participants should notify the WHO Secretariat in advance.
Meals and Dining
- Buffet breakfast is included in the room rate.
- Lunch is provided by the meeting.
- Dinner is the responsibility of the participant.
- Coffee breaks are available during the meeting.

Currency and Electricity
- The Barbados Dollar (BBD) is the local currency, but USD is widely accepted at a rate of 1 USD = 2 BBD.
- The exchange rate at banks is 1 USD = 2.02768 BBD.
- Electricity in Barbados is 115V / 50Hz, and Type A and B plugs are used.
- A universal travel adaptor is recommended for devices not compatible with these plug types.
