The study analyzes the job creation potential of the Bangladesh Livestock and Dairy Development Project (LDDP), a World Bank-funded initiative aimed at transforming the informal livestock sector into a formal commercial one. Two methods were employed: a field survey of 2,045 farms and firms, and a Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) multiplier model. Survey findings reveal high informality, with unpaid family labor dominating employment, average Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) jobs per farm around 2, and significant underemployment. The LDDP is expected to create 99,300 direct FTE jobs, with substantial gains for women (38,000 jobs) and youth (30,000 jobs). SAM model projections estimate 164,000 total jobs over the project period, driven primarily by livestock farming (64%) and related upstream/downstream activities (36%).

Key policy recommendations emphasize formalizing the sector, enhancing youth employment through targeted training, promoting women's participation in non-farm roles, and reducing seasonality by diversifying value chains and exports. The study underscores the sector's potential for inclusive job growth amid economic and population increases.
