The Mission of the EBA

Description of Activities

The Legal Unit provides comprehensive legal support across all of the EBA's regulatory, oversight, and operational activities. This includes:

Coordinating investigations into breaches of Union law;
Mediating between competent authorities;
Advising on legal matters related to:
- Institutional issues based on EU Treaties and the EBA's founding regulation;
- Banking and financial services issues under EU financial services legislation;
- Operational issues such as contracts, procurement, data protection, and information sharing;
- All regulatory/supervisory products issued by the EBA, including guidelines, technical standards, recommendations, decisions, and opinions.

Areas of Engagement for Trainees

Trainees may be involved in various activities depending on their background, education, and skills, such as:

Conducting research on legal issues related to the EBA's areas of competence;
Investigating complaints and potential breaches of Union law;
Reviewing the EBA's Q&As from a legal perspective;
Assisting with the legal review of EBA regulatory products (guidelines and draft technical standards);
Providing legal support on matters concerning EU financial services law, supervisory law, and institutional law.

Requirements

1.1 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must be nationals of EU Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, or candidate countries with pre-accession status.
They must have completed the first cycle of a higher university and obtained a full degree certificate or its equivalent by the application deadline.
They must have very good knowledge of English, at least at B2 level according to the CEFR.

1.2 Selection Criteria

A bachelor's degree in law or in another discipline with post-graduate studies in EU law or financial services law;
Strong knowledge of EU law and financial services law;
Excellent drafting skills in English, with examples provided in the application (e.g., studies, presentations, articles, document revisions);
Awareness and interest in the role and functioning of the EBA;
Good organisation and prioritisation skills.

1.3 Application Submission

Candidates must read EBA DC 263 and EBA DC 264 before applying.
Applications must be submitted in English to EBA-Traineeship Applications@eba.europa.eu.
Required documents:
- Curriculum Vitae in Europass format;
- Motivation letter;
- Completed, dated, and signed eligibility criteria grid;
- Copies of diplomas or relevant certificates (self-certifications are not accepted).
Applications must clearly state how the candidate meets the selection criteria and behavioural competences.
The subject line must include the reference number TR LEGAL 2019 and the candidate's full name.
Only one application per position is accepted; multiple applications for different traineeships must be submitted separately.
Late applications will be automatically rejected.
