报告摘要
The 2016 Global School-based Student Health Survey (GSHS) in the United Arab Emirates was conducted among students aged 13-17 years in grades 8-12, using a two-stage cluster sampling method. The survey aimed to assess various health behaviors, including dietary habits, hygiene, mental health, physical activity, protective factors, tobacco use, and violence/unintentional injury. Key findings from 5849 participants (response rates: school 94%, student 85%, overall 80%) revealed high prevalence of unhealthy behaviors, such as significant rates of overweight (39.1%) and obesity (16.2%) among adolescents, with higher occurrences in males. Numerous students consumed carbonated soft drinks daily (34.1%), and poor handwashing after using the toilet was common (3.2% never or rarely). Mental health issues, like lack of close friends, affected 6.8% of students, while physical activity was low, with only 16.7% meeting guidelines. Tobacco use, including smoking, was high, particularly among youth, and reported violence incidents were substantial, with 41.2% experiencing physical fights. These data highlight pressing public health concerns, especially in preventive areas.
